Rules & regulations for The International Documentary Film Festival DocumFest 2008

DocumFest 2008 International Documentary Film Festival has been organized by TVR Timišoara, with the help of The City Hall and the City Council of Timišoara, and co-organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute, in partnership with The French Cultural Centre and The German Cultural Centre of Timišoara.

1. Only films produced from January 1, 2006 onwards - whatever their length and format - can participate in the festival. Each applicant can submit only one film per category. All films must be submitted to only one category.

2. Entries are free of charge and must be postmarked by September 8, 2008. All complete entries are to be shipped to the following address: TVR TIMIŠOARA, 14 A Pestalozzi Street, 300115 Timišoara, Romania.

Filmmakers must send the following materials:

  1. a copy of the film on DVD (original version, English subtitles)
  2. an entry form filled in completely (in Romanian or in English). Forms are completed electronically. A completed printed form, signed by hand, will be sent together with the film.
  3. the film synopsis and the text for the subtitles (in English, electronic format)

Confirmation of the arrival will be made by email.

3. By September 30, 2008, a pre-selection jury formed of film professionals will choose the films that have been included in the official selection. The pre-selection results will be announced on the festival site and via email.

4. The international jury will be formed of film & TV well-knowen personalities. Films to which the members of the jury have contributted in any way may not be submitted.

5. The films included in the official selection will be projected onDVD.

6. DOCUMFEST 2008 shall award the following prizes:

  1. The Great Prize - The Festival's Trophy
  2. Special Prize of the Jury
  3. Prize for Best Creative Documentary
  4. Prize for Best Journalistic TV Documentary
  5. Special Prize for Best Documentary on Intercultural Dialogue
  6. Special Prize for Best Documentary on Kids and Teens Issues
  7. Special Prize for Best Documentary Made by a Student

The Great Prize and The Special Prizes can go to any film of the official selection, whatever the category it was submitted to. The jury, together with the festival's organizers, can suggest other prizes, too.

DocumFest aims at promoting both creative documentary (documentaire de creation) and television documentary, focusing on the relationship between the two genres.

A Special Prize for Intercultural Dialogue is given in The European Year of Intercultural Dialogue in order to emphasize the enriching potential of cultural diversity - one of the most precious values cherished by our large European family.

A Special Prize for Best Documentary on Kids and Teens Issues will reward films that were made for kids and teenagers, the topic to be freely chosen by filmmakers.

A Special Prize for Best Documentary Made by a Student wishes to promote young filmmakers who are at the beginning of their careers.

7. The directors / producers of the films that have been accepted in the official selection shall approve of the use of no more than 3 minutes of their films for promotional purposes within DocumFest.

8. The DVD copies of all the films sent for the official selection will be included in the festival video archives. DocumFest reserves the right to show the selected films without an entry fee during special events of the year with a non-commercial, didactic purpose, or for promoting DocumFest.

9. The director / producer is responsible for the accuracy of information provided in the entry form. Once s/he entered her/his film, the director / producer can not withdraw it from the festival. The organizer declines any responsibility for any inaccuracies that may occur in the entry forms.

10. The directors / producers of the winning / awarded films will agree to mention the prize they won in press documents and promotional materials.

11. The festival's director is entittled to decide upon all the matters unspecified in these regulations. The English version of this set of rules is considered to have an authoritative reference.

12. By submitting their films to this festival filmmakers automatically acknowledge the actual regulations and conditions specified herein.
